Artificial Intelligence - AI/ML/NN/DL Overview

What is Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a wide-ranging branch of computer science concerned with building smart machines capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence. AI application can be categorised into 5 main groups:

- Reasoning

- Knowledge

- Planning

- Communication

- Perception

AI is critical in helping us solve immensely difficult issues in various industries, such as entertainment, education, health, commerce, transport, and utilities.

The three tiers of Artificial Intelligence: ANI/AGI/ASI.

There are 3 tiers or milestones for AI;

Artificial Narrow Intelligence, Artificial General Intelligence, Artificial Super Intelligence.

The tiers represent the ability of the AI and the level of detail, its ability to not only perform a task but learn and then one day iterate and reason for itself.

Currently we are able to achieve Artificial Narrow Intelligence but many are racing to achieve the AGI status whereby a computer can learn any intellectual task a human can.

Most Common Industry Applications

AI has a number of uses but the ones that are proving to be of the most value are Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision and Data Mining. Combining all three of these AI applications creates the perfect scenario to provide excellence in customer service, collaboration, safety and security, financial planning and predictive modelling, asset management and even design engineering through prototyping.
